Tobias Prenen once was a successful, passionate cellist. He played together with the world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, worked in the string orchestra on a cruise ship, recorded CDs and made tours - until 1997. Since then, Prenen lives in a wheelchair, physically and mentally handicapped. His intellectual family struggles with his fate. 'Is his soul still there?' his brother Paul wonders. 'And his mind?' In his association with his brother, Paul clings to the blessings of a 'lower consciousness'. Tobias' mother, sister and best friend Rudolf are also candid and pleasantly honest about the task that the person Tobias has become. The talking head interviews are alternated with images of Tobias Prenen's current life, living in a home with partners in misfortune. Owing to the very apt editing, ample space is given to many emotions and questions: What is life like in a home like this? What is it like for the family? And what does Tobias himself think about it? The beautiful cello music does the rest in this touching documentary.
