Tine and Warre, a childless couple, take pity on a peculiar creature with wings. Warre, a bird-watcher, thinks she is a bird. Tine thinks she is a girl. The child's birdlike inclinations surprise the woman, but not the man. When Viegeltje, as they call her, flies off with a flock of birds, Tine is inconsolable. The couple decides to go and find her. This search brings them into contact with others who have met Viegeltje. Everybody finds in her exactly what they need. Warre and Tine's quest is the adaptation of Joke van Leeuwen's book. The surrealist road movie gives free rein to Van Leeuwen's play on words and images. Viegeltje is a blank character that everybody can project his expectations on. At the end of the film, everybody has learned a lesson or has been delivered from some kind of fear. The film uses digital techniques, but Viegeltje is played by the seven-year-old Kenadie Jourdin-Bromley, who suffers from primordial dwarfism and hasn't grown taller than 76 centimetres.
