Documentary about a hotel where only women are welcome. The Martha Washington Hotel, in Midtown Manhattan, was founded at the turn of the century as a respectable lodging house for women travelling alone. In recent decades the hotel has however turned into refuge for women afraid of living alone and unprotected in this Metropolis. Half of the 450 rooms are permanently occupied, some for more than ten years by the same woman. The hotel offers the safety they need. Documentarymaker Netty Rosenfeld talks to some of the permanent guests.
