An elderly former cabaret performer gets a belated chance to prove himself. He is asked for the leading role in a play about an actor playing his last big role. During rehearsals, the aged artist is confronted with missed opportunities and painful events in the past. About the fear of mediocrity, the power struggle between actor and director, the secret of acting and the boundary between actor and character. Adapted from Harry Mulisch’s novel.
