Silent drama, played out in Scheveningen and on the North Sea. Bargees' daughter Mary is in love with the young fisherman Arend, but is also held dear by Jan, whose marriage proposal she declines. Next, Jan sabotages Arend's boat, which sinks with Arend on board. On Mary and Jan's wedding party, the treachery is brought to light and the deceiver is arrested. It turns out that Arend survived the attack on his boat and marries his Mary, after all.
