The renovation of the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum in the early 21st century eventually took longer than its original construction in the second half of the 19th century. The project was hampered by unmanageable forces and unanticipated setbacks, but after a decade the reopening could finally be celebrated with a splendid fireworks display. Oeke Hoogendijk captured the entire process, from 2003 to 2013, and re-edited her acclaimed four-part documentary series, complemented with new footage, into this cinema film.
