An unrestrained film about glass, shot parallel to the industrial film Over glas gesproken commissioned by the United Glass Factories in Leerdam. In all freedom, Haanstra could unleash his fantasy in reflecting the glass manufacturing process. As a starting point, he approached glass as material in itself. There is no text; the glassblowers are only accompanied by jazz music. For this documentary, Haanstra was the first Dutchman to receive an Oscar, in the Short Documentary category. In Berlin, the film clinched a Silver Bear.
