Documentary about the quest of inventor Geert Dijkhuis for an inexhaustible source of energy.
Documentary about the quest of inventor Geert Dijkhuis for an inexhaustible source of energy. Dijkhuis announced in 1983 that he wanted to generate clean energy from artificially-induced balls of lightning. If you can tame lightning and enclose it in a fusion reactor, then you have a source of energy that can keep the world population going for years, according to the inventor. Lack of money brought his research to a halt five years ago. Since then the measuring equipment has been rusting and his company Convectron has only existed on paper. Caged Lightning follows Dijkhuis on a visit to Rotterdam warehouse and interviews colleague inventors, supporters and opponents. Dijkhuis emerges in the film as an unsung genius who is not understood by the scientific establishment and continues to believe in himself and fights to prove he's right.
