After seven years in exile in Holland, the Croatian Jokic family returns to war-torn Vokuvar. There it turns out that their house has been occupied by an elderly Serbian couple whose house has been turned into a ruin by the war. Filmmaker Rob Hof spent a year following the peace efforts of Max van der Stoel, the High Commissioner of National Minorities. He tried to find a solution for the housing problem in the former war zone and in the film he meets the Croatian Jokic family. The story of these two families is illustrative of thousands of families in the region. It is not hatred, but the housing shortage that threatens the fragile peace in Vukovar.
