In voice-over, an elderly man remembers a summer long gone by; recollections that are shot in accelerated, shaky, discoloured or black-and-white mode. A girl is standing on a beach, clouds rush past. As a young boy, the old man sees his mother (Halina Reijn) standing in the garden. 'Still the tower plays the Frühlingslied, about Mother in the garden.' After J.C. van Schagen's poem Frühlingslied.
