Documentary by filmmaker Tijs Tinbergen, meant as a homage to his father, who died young. The filmmaker spent three months every summer in his youth at a biological field camp on the Veluwe Hills. Here, led by his father Luuk Tinbergen, research was done on coaltits. In 1955 the biologist Luuk Tinbergen took his own life. His son felt deserted, while at the same time trying to understand the deed. In his later life, Tijs Tinbergen did not choose to be a biologist. His younger brother Joost did. Fascinated by his dedication and drive, the director made the documentary By Nature.
