First colour film by Van der Horst depicts the various ethnic communities in Suriname, framed by music, song and dance. Van der Horst shows how Indians cross a fast-flowing river in the jungle and hops aboard the narrow boats of the Maroons and Creoles. But most people live in the capital of Paramaribo. Many communities there often have their own clothing and language. The film, the title referring to the national flower of Suriname, was awarded the Golden Bear in Berlin in 1960.
