Feature film about Ernst, a man in his thirties who loses his memory after an accident. Before the accident, his parents couldn't cope with him and they regard the situation as a new chance to bring up Ernst to be the perfect son. They call in the help of a psychiatrist, a priest and an ideal potential daughter-in-law. Ernst is treated like a small child. He tries to live up to expectations, but at the same time clings on instinctively to his own ideals, and hence comes into conflict with his parents and friends. During his renewed acquaintance with the world around him, Ernst gets into absurd situations. Yet in the end he is so disappointed with life that he is driven to an act of despair.
