In an empty church, a group of homeless people listen to a St. Matthew’s Passion rehearsal by The Bach Choir & Orchestra of the Netherlands. This is the beginning of a labyrinthine journey that steers a middle course between artistic expression and candid personal outpourings. The leitmotif being the stories by people who were once deeply touched by St. Matthew’s Passion, including opera director Peter Sellars, author Anna Enquist, Bach Choir conductor Pieter Jan Leusink and a young woman who probably owes her life to Bach.
