Part of a trilogy (Egg, Milk, Honey) about the Turkish poet Yusuf at different stages in life. On Saturday 29 September, director Semih Kaplanoglu (Turkey, 1963) will deliver the Cinema Militans Lecture.
First part of a trilogy about the Turkish poet Yusuf at different stages of life. The trilogy goes back in time, back in the life of first adult (Egg), then adolescent (Milk) and then six-year-old Yusuf (Honey). A life in flashbacks. The egg from the title symbolises the future. After his mother Zehra has passed away, the adult Yusuf returns to his birthplace after many years for her funeral. Her dying wish is for Yusuf to execute a ritual sacrifice for her. Yusuf can’t refuse. He is sucked into the rhythm of country life and his strong sense of guilt
