Edo de Waart, Holland's hardest working conductor, stands at a crossroad in life. Until recently, he travelled all over the world, conducting orchestras from New York to Vienna and from San Francisco to Sydney, but times have changed. He turns 61 and his daughter just turned 1. In this eventful year, when he takes stock of his life and has to make some radical decisions, he is followed by Leon Giesen and Marcel Prins. This has resulted in an unorthodox conductor's portrait of the man that Frank Zappa called the Paul McCartney of classical music. The film goes from Messiaen via a children's song to Beethoven. And takes the spectator behind the scenes, where Edo works with Pierre Audi on Wagner's Lohengrin, and shows why he resigns as the artistic director of De Nederlandse Opera. We are witnesses to his struggle with the toughest piece of music he has ever done in his life, while at the same time he has to take his daughter to the zoo for a day.
