Music documentary focusing on the composition Eclat by Pierre Boulez. He composed the score in 1965. After the strict serialism of the fifties, Boulez regained his musical freedom with this work which completely integrates his serial achievements. Eclat is regarded as one of his most original and characteristic scores. The instruments are divided by Boulez into two groups. This evokes special contrasts. The piece is performed by the Nieuw Ensemble led by conductor Ed Spanjaard who, like the composer, has plenty to say in the film. Director Frank Scheffer transformed the structure and the character of the composition to the structure and style of the documentary.
