Co-director Petra Lataster and her husband Peter return to her native country, the former GDR, for a school reunion. The group makes a boat trip and around the table at night reminisces about the old days. Petra Lataster participates in the conversation as one of the classmates. She also visits former peers at home, like the melancholic son of a GDR party leader, a fellow traveller - who openly admits to it - and an ophthalmologist, who could only fully develop his talents after the collapse of the Wall. Thus, these former companions in adversity present a gamut of reactions to the demise of their homeland. Petra Lataster, who also examines her own Stasi files, mixes the conversations with archive footage of the GDR, the East German youth movement and her class. Apart from their GDR past, the documentary also looks at the present-day lives of these ex-Ossies.
