'This soil is too dry for hell', someone says about Montana. The tone has been set. Droomland is a journey across the American state of Montana, where 120 years ago the first pioneers came to search for money and happiness. But after no more than twenty years the first ones left the area again. The arid land and bleak climate prevented agriculture from gaining a foothold. How do the current inhabitants fare, the filmmakers wonder. What possesses people to stay here? The tone of the documentary mirrors the landscape: not much is said, there are many long and slow shots across the plains. The makers compare the homes of the inhabitants of this vast, desolate plain with their own homes: the few square metres of their terrace houses. They decide to leave a memento behind on the plain.
