Dr. Pulder, country dentist, is visited by a former college friend who is now a famous neurosurgeon and leads a completely different life then Pulder. After the call, Pulder finds out that all the morphine from his medicine chest has been stolen. Pulder has been cheated, but at the same time he is allured by the world of his old university friend. After the latter's demise, Pulder starts looking for details from his life. This adaptation of Anton Koolhaas' novel De nagel achter het behang was nominated for a Golden Bear in Berlin.
