Edifying documentary about the rich history of the town of Enschede from 1860. The film is entirely constructed from archive photographs, accompanied by actor Laus Steenbeeke’s voice-over.
The history of Enschede has many aspects: from the development of a dynamic manufacturing industry to a number of major disasters. Director Peter Scholten watched thousands of photographs, made in the course of time, of the centre around the Old Market and used them as a basis for a layered story of this Dutch town, running from 1860 to 2015. Scholten worked on this edifying film project for four years. Actor Laus Steenbeeke unfolfds the urban history while many archive photographs visually prop the story.
