Portrait of the East German cyclist Detlef Macha.
Portrait of the East German cyclist Detlef Macha. For years Detlef Macha was a prime member of the DDR sports culture. All in all he is a five times world champion individual pursuit. After the German reunification however Macha, once a celebrated champion, became a nameless citizen. Personal circumstances, as well as the decline of his social status made him commit suicide in 1994 at the age of 35. In interviews with Macha's parents, trainer, friends and colleagues the film describes his life and the circumstances that led to his tragic death.
