In 2012, all Dutch movie theatres switched to digital film projection. This marked the end of more than one hundred years of analogue screening and the projectionist’s original task. Who was the film operator and what tied him to that cramped room with the giant, reliable film projector? In the digital era, do they still feel irreplaceable and lords of their tiny but magical universe?
