Poetic TV film about getting old and dying. A retired judge reaches the last phase of his life, in which reminiscences, visions and daydreams become entangled. One day his attention is suddenly captured by the sound of a piano. In the lounge of a temporarily-closed hotel, he sees a beautiful young woman sitting at a grand piano. The mysterious woman bears a striking resemblance to his late wife. The pianist who keeps popping up, only visible to him, intrigues the old man greatly. He does not realise that she is 'death'. Death in the shape of the woman most dear to him. By taking his leave of life and the people closest to him, the man prepares for the approaching end.
