The Rotterdam drifter Willem Koopman used to be a successful racing cyclist. In this ‘sci-fi documentary’, famous fellow-Rotterdammers talk about the man who in his own universe performed heroic deeds.
Unusually composed ‘sci-fi sports documentary’ about Willem Koopman, who for many years was the most famous drifter of Rotterdam. In the 1960s, he was a successful racing cyclist. After being caught using performance-enhancing drugs, Koopman slipped down into a tramp’s life. He lived in his own universe, performing heroic deeds as a protector of the city. The dramatized documentary incorporates archive footage, theatrical scenes and interviews with people such as Jules Deelder, Wilfried de Jong and Raymond Thiry. Rotterdam-based band The Kik sings Koopman’s praises.
