Short documentary about intersex child Wen Long. This nine-year-old is glad her parents leave it up to her whether she wants to go through life as a boy or girl. But still it’s not easy.
At Wen Long’s birth, it was impossible to establish if she was a boy or a girl. She turned out to be an intersex child. Her parents did not opt for surgery, but left the gender decision to Wen Long herself. As a nine-year-old, she is happy with their choice, but her status remains complicated. After all, if you are both girl and boy, what do you belong to? The brave Wen Long thinks it important to tell her story in this documentary. Precisely because nobody knows that intersex exists, that it’s quite common and that many other intersex people dodge the subject.
