Documentary about the unstoppable enthusiasm with which the 78-year-old pianist, composer and conductor Reinbert de Leeuw is absorbed in rehearsing and performing Johann Sebastian Bach’s Matthäus Passion.

'If I had to engage myself only with the Matthäus Passion for the rest of my life, I would do it right away.' Says pianist, composer and conductor Reinbert de Leeuw, who dedicated his working life to modern classical music, but now ardently extends his arms to Johann Sebastian Bach. The filmmaker follows the 78-year-old De Leeuw from the first days of rehearsal with the orchestra, choir and soloists up to their moving performance in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. A documentary about the mystery of music and the unstoppable vigour with which De Leeuw is engrossed in Bach’s monumental opus.
