Playfully edited documentary investigates the disappearance at sea of conceptual artist Bas Jan Ader - a man that left far more behind than just a mystery.
More than forty years ago, Bas Jan Ader decided to set out on an adventure. In a tiny sailing boat, the Dutch conceptual artist left the United States for England. Nine months later, the little boat was found adrift at sea, without a sign of life from Ader. The film, an exploratory journey to this mystery, follows Ader’s footsteps to Hollywood. In an adventurous montage of images that jump between times, places and characters, the filmmaker shows that Bas Jan Ader left something larger than just a mystery. Won the IDFA Special Jury Award for Children’s Documentary.
