Thirteen-part youth series based on the book Escape from the Gallows by Ton van Reen. The story is set in the second half of the 18th century. The southern Dutch province of Limburg is dominated by several enemies. One man stands up against the oppression. The mysterious man who calls himself the Black Captain leads a gang of Goat Riders. The viewer sees the adventures of the Goat Riders through the eyes of a fourteen-year-old boy. When tax collectors take his family's last money and all their possessions, the farmer boy steals the tax gold from the sheriff. When the Goat Riders start hunting the gold, life gets difficult for the boy. Two episodes from the series will be screened during the Dutch Film Festival.
