When Machteld was eighteen, she was told she suffers from a disease that will eventually make her deaf and blind. Machteld, a young woman and a married mother, wonders: Who am I and what do I matter? Everyone keeps silent about the sword of Damocles suspended over her head. In the five subsequent years, her second child is born and tensions arise in her relationship. While friends build careers and lead dynamic lives, Machteld’s world grows more silent, darker and smaller.
