For 25 years, kinetic artist Theo Jansen has been chasing a dream: create new life from PVC pipes, tiewraps and sails. He wants to conquer the world with his beach beasts, but will he succeed?
For 25 years, kinetic artist Theo Jansen has been chasing an impossible dream. 'I create a new nature, I give the world a new species.' From PVC pipes, tiewraps and sails, he constructs ‘strandbeesten’ (beach beasts) that are built to survive him. The latter is still a problem, however, and he doesn’t like it at all. Meanwhile, with the help of an American museum curator and a photographer, he tries to conquer America. Perhaps, Dutch museums will finally take him seriously too then. How far will this fairytale stretch?
