Successful writer looks back on his childhood. He and his maladjusted father and uncles lived with his grandmother. Poignant, hilarious film by Belgian director Felix van Groeningen.

Successful writer looks back on his childhood, particularly the year 1986, when he was placed in juvenile detention. As a thirteen-year-old kid, he and his father and three uncles live with his grandmother in a working-class house in the Belgian village of Reetveerdegem. The days are filled with alcohol, chasing women and shameless idleness. Their motto: ‘God created the day and we try to pull through.’
Selected for Cannes and other festivals, where it won several awards. Adapted from the novel by Dimitri Verhulst. One of the ten films selected by Guest of the Year Frans van Gestel.
