TV film spoken in Frisian based on the country novel by Abe Brouwer. The Golden Swipe tells the story of the Frisian farmer Douwe who, like his son Ate, is obsessed by trotting. His great passion is however a great burden on his farming activities. One day Douwe has to lend money from his neighbour Wilco. By acceding to Wilco's advances, his wife Liesbeth settles the debt. Ate, who notices that his mother is pining away, accuses Wilco of adultery and blackmail. Douwe sides with his neighbour and beats up his son. Ate angrily turns his back on his home. The feud between father and son is fought out on the trotting track, where both compete for the important Golden Swipe.
