Erotic thriller about a woman who has just seperated and starts a relationship with her neighbour, who is suspected of murder. Doctor Rose Hartman has just moved into an apartment building by the sea with her little boy. After her housekeeper/babysitter is murdered, she meets Eric, a copywriter who lives in the same block. Despite warnings from her local patients and neighbours, Rose is increasingly attracted to Eric as she also feels unsafe in the block where everyone can look into each other's home. Soon everyone but Rose suspects that Eric is the killer. After some private investigations, Rose too starts to have her doubts about his innocence. The original title being Heatwave, Jean van der Velde's scenario was supposed to be played out in Los Angeles, but eventually the location was moved to Scheveningen and the title was changed to De flat.
