Television drama based on the play Brimstone and Treacle by Dennis Potter from 1976. The play was filmed in 1978 especially for television once already, but the BBC banned the 'nauseating' broadcast until 1988. The story is about the Broex, a well-behaved middle-class family. Since their daughter Carry has been turned into a vegetable by a car accident, her parents lead a life isolated from the outside world. Father Broex is ashamed of his idiot daughter, but mother remains hopeful and tries to communicate with the girl. When father Broex bumps into a young man in a shopping centre who claims to be an old friend of his daughter, the hopeless situation changes.
