Together with Dusk and sculptural work, this short artistic film belongs to Olaf's photo series Dusk & Dawn. Dawn tells about a white family in Russia early last century, in a completely white palette. Dawn is the aesthetic counterpart of Dusk, portraying a dark-skinned upper-middle-class family. Olaf's inspiration for this series were the photographs Frances Benjamin Johnston took in 1899-1900, dealing with former slaves, now pupils, in a liberated world.
