Ian Curtis, singer of the British band Joy Division, committed suicide in 1980, ath the age of 23. The film is based on the book Touching from a Distance by widow Deborah Curtis. The story focuses on the singer's final years. Entirely shot in black-and-white, the film presents a sober and gloomy image of Manchester in the late seventies, but has some strikingly diverting moments, too.
