In tolerant Holland, the 17th century painter and freethinker Johannes Torrentius was convicted for heresy. The filmmaker immerses himself in the case, which becomes even more enigmatic.

The mysterious 17th century painter and freethinker Johannes Torrentius was rich, famous and notorious. A libertine who ridiculed religion, was tortured and convicted for heresy, and permitted to leave the country by the Royal Family as a gesture to the English king. Only one of his works has survived; a mysterious masterpiece that for years served as a lid of a raisin barrel. The filmmaker re-examines the case, but the enigma only seems to grow. And how tolerant was Holland really in those days?
