Once upon a time, international film stars paid their respect on the red carpet of Ciné Rubens, back then the largest and most modern cinema in Belgium. Today, at the same address, various migrant families live under one roof and dish antennas and clotheslines decorate the grubby looking building. In this documentary, the residents talk about migration, identity and being rooted in society. Meanwhile, in the local Flemish pub across the street, the patrons muse about the white past of the neighbourhood, while in the African barbershop the multi-coloured present is the talk of the town. The jazzy soundtrack connects the stirring stories.
