Huppert is a Frenchwoman who, during a holiday in Australia, slowly loses her eyesight after a car crash. She has an affair with a blind cactus lover and discovers a new world of increased awareness.
Colo (Isabelle Huppert) has come to Australia from France to stay with family friends, after the failure of her marriage. She is involved in a car crash and threatens to lose her eyesight. A young blind friend talks to her and they soon become lovers. He helps her to see the possibility of blindness as a door to increased awareness, rather than a tragedy. Then her husband decides to come visit her in Australia.
