During the Japanese occupation, the white population of the Netherlands East Indies was transported to camps. Most East-Indian Dutchmen, so-called ‘buitenkampers’, were spared these horrors. In this documentary, some ‘buitenkampers’ candidly tell their stories, including the registration of all Dutchmen after the Japanese invasion. For the first time, a racial distinction was made between full-blooded Dutchmen and mixed-blooded Dutchmen or ‘Indos’.
