As an eight-year-old boy, André Hazes is discovered at the Amsterdam Albert Cuyp market by Johnny Kraaijkamp in the late 1950s. In the 1980s, coached by his producer and manager Tim Griek, he has his great breakthrough as a popular singer. In his latter days, the first years of the millennium, his drinking and health problems get the better of him. These three periods in Hazes' life have been interwoven in this well-balanced musical drama. After his feature in the musical Hij gelooft in mij, Martijn Fischer again plays the singer, doing all the vocal parts himself.
