In this exceptionally conceived documentary, director Barbara Meter tells the life story of her father Leo, a German who fled the Nazis and ended up in Amsterdam. In addition to stories told by her mother and others who knew her dad, Meter uses the richly illustrated letters he wrote to her with affection and humour during the war, after the Gestapo had arrested him and deported him to the Eastern Front. Leo Meter died in 1944 in Poland, at the age of 35.
