Documentary based on anthropological research in which the striking transformation of the Western brass band is investigated in several non-Western cultures. Van der Keuken filmed and Noshka van der Lely recorded the sound of orchestras from Nepal, Ghana, Surinam and Indonesia. It focuses on the assimilation of the march, often performed in the colonial era, in the native musical tradition. Several members of the orchestra are introduced, sketching a picture of everyday life. One significant element is the practice of religious rites at weddings and funerals, in which music plays a major role.
