Like her mother, filmmaker Sinke is unable to get rid of stuff. What is the use of all these seemingly trivial possessions that surround her? She visits other hoarders, but also digital nomads who preach the minimalist gospel and for whom a backpack suffices.
As long as she can remember, director Digna Sinke saves all sorts of things, ranging from sugar bags and clothes to old newspapers and film reviews. Together with her mother (92), she tries to find the mainspring of this urge. It turns out the saved items serve as memory machines. Now that digitalisation is rapidly expanding, less and less room seems to be available for possessions, which is why she also consults her polar opposites: the digital nomad and minimalist for whom a passport, bank card, laptop and phone seem to be all they need.
