Citizen journalists versus fake news. Online collective of truth-finders sink their teeth into the full facts surrounding MH17, the war in Syria and the poisoning of a Russian spy.
The internet gave fake news and propaganda a firm boost, but also facilitated the revolutionary rise of citizen journalism. Bellingcat, a group of dedicated online investigators, aspires to reveal the facts behind impenetrable news stories from all over the world. From their home base in Leicester, leader Elliot and his team question newspapers, networks and authorities. For the first time, Bellingcat researchers from Germany, the Netherlands, Finland and the United States give a filmmaker exclusive permission to follow them. How does this club, branded by some critics as a collection of armchair researchers, manage to bring world leaders before a court of justice?
