Full-length documentary about people in Antarctica. Many generations of explorers have set out for the deep south in recent decades. The hardships grdually got less and Antarctica changed into a playground for adventurers and researchers. Film-maker Rolf Orthel followed several polar travellers between 1990 and 1994 and became absorbed in their world of thought and motives. Some turn out to have been inpired by the heroism of earlier times. Most however want to acquire knowledge and understanding in a contemporary way about the scientific treasures that this frozen world accomodates. They try to discover what has happen, what is now happening and especially what is going to happen to this enormous slab of ice that largely regulates the climate on our planet.
