Romantic comedy with melancholic edge and many Dutch stars interweaves different storylines about (lack of) love, against the background of Amsterdam in the St. Nicholas period.
'Love is like St. Nicholas. You have to believe in it. Otherwise, it will come to nothing.' Romantic comedy with a host of Dutch stars interweaves different storylines about (lack of) love, against the background of Amsterdam in the St. Nicholas period. The saintly man is preparing for his entry, but suddenly dies. His mysterious, last-minute replacement does not behave like a normal St. Nicholas, which causes a lot of mayhem among the inhabitants of downtown Amsterdam. From crown prince Valentijn to shopping mall assistant Kiki, from pool attendant Victor to divorced mother Klaasje, but also their children, parents and other relatives: everybody learns something about themselves in this unusual St. Nicholas week and gets caught up in the (im)possibilities of love. Director Joram Lürsen brings all vicissitudes to a happy conclusion with an accurate eye for timing, without forgetting that love often has a melancholic edge.
