Adèle Bloemendaal: Eens wil ik er van af zijn

After Maarten Mourik was asked to direct a theatre show about the almost 80-year-old Adèle Bloemendaal, he grew fascinated with the cabaret performer. Although Bloemendaal initially disliked the idea of a bio-documentary, four recorded meetings ensued in which one of Holland’s most striking stage and TV personalities comments on her life in characteristic fashion. Mourik’s portrait of the woman who adhered to the principle ‘a fine story fills the auditorium’ shows a weakened but unbroken Bloemendaal, who has not lost a granule of her presence.
