In Belgium, mentally ill criminals are not held responsible for their actions. Without any treatment, they are put behind the walls of Merksplas prison - separated from society. Their crimes range from setting fire to a bike to murder. The date of release stated in every file: 31/12/9999. This poetic documentary interweaves the stories of five inmates. In the solidified prison time, all that remains for them is the eternal confrontation with themselves and their deeds.
